Psychotherapy is the treatment of choice for people under 18, while electroconvulsive therapy is only used as a last resort. Care is usually given on an outpatient basis, while treatment in an inpatient unit is considered if there is a significant risk to self or others.

Almost everybody feels anxious and nervous right before doing something really important, be it a thesis paper presentation, a job interview, or a midterm exam we did not get to review for. It is the body’s normal reaction to tense and stressful situations. Anxiety is simply the body’s natural “fight-or-flight” response to warn us of possible dangers ahead.

Having good mental health helps you make good decisions and deal with life’s challenges at home, work, or school.
It is not uncommon for teenagers to develop problems with their mental health. National statistics indicate that one in every five teens has some type of mental health problem in any given year. The problems range from mild to severe. Sadly, suicide is the third leading cause of death among teens.
Unfortunately, most young people with mental health problems don’t get any treatment for them. Research shows that effective treatments are available that can help members of all racial, ethnic, and cultural groups.

Everyone feels anxious and under stress from time to time. Situations such as meeting tight deadlines, important social obligations or driving in heavy traffic, often bring about anxious feelings. Such mild anxiety may help make you alert and focused on facing threatening or challenging circumstances. On the other hand, anxiety disorders cause severe distress over a period of time and disrupt the lives of individuals suffering from them. The frequency and intensity of anxiety involved in these disorders is often debilitating. But fortunately, with proper and effective treatment, people suffering from anxiety disorders can lead normal lives.
