The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.
– Johann Sebastian Bach
Why waste money on psychotherapy when you can listen to the B Minor Mass?
– Michael Torke
The sonatas of Mozart are unique; they are too easy for children, and too difficult for artists.
– Arthur Schnabel
Mozart in his music was probably the most reasonable of the world’s great composers. It is the happy balance between flight and control, between sensibility and self-discipline, simplicity and sophistication of style that is his particular province… Mozart tapped once again the source from which all music flows, expressing himself with a spontaneity and refinement and breath-taking rightness that has never since been duplicated.
– Aaron Copland, Copland on Music (1960)
Music must please the ear, music must never cease to be music
–Mozart
When I open my eyes I must sigh, for what I see is contrary to my religion, and I must despise the world which does not know that music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy.
– Ludwig van Beethoven,

“Which is more musical: a truck passing by a factory or a truck passing by a music school?”

I’ll tell you what classical music is — for those of you who don’t know. Classical music is this music that was written by a bunch of dead people a long time ago. And it’s formula music, the same as top forty music is formula music. In order to have a piece be classical, it has to conform to academic standards that were the current norms of that day and age … I think that people are entitled to be amused, and entertained. If they see deviations from this classical norm, it’s probably good for their mental health.

I have two; both by Richard Wagner.
(1) “It’s the “apotheosis” of the dance”: referencing Beethoven’s 7th Symphony. A more accurate description of it, is not possible, in my opinion.
(2) This may not be “word for word”.
When asked why he didn’t notate any kind of interpretive markings regarding a certain passage in one of his operas, he remarked, “A mediocre conductor would not understand it; and a great one, would not need it.
Alberich
I love a couple of them but I have one favorite
“Good composers borrow, Great composers steal”
Igor Stravinsky. This of course was not orginally Igor Stravinsky but T.S Elliot (talking about some random guy’s play when critics said it was to similar to shakespeare and he used poets not composers. Igor Stravinsky stealing this quote is added ironic humor.
I can’t remember exactly how it goes but Schuman has a quote like “It’s easy to compose; all you have to do is remember a tune that no one has ever used”. This is exactly how I feel when I write music. I would swear I steal every melody because I seemingly remember them even though they’ve never been written.
“Listening to Ralph Vaughan William’s Fifth symphony is like staring at a cow for forty-five minutes”. Aaron Copeland. I have always thought it was boring. Copeland and I seem to have alot in common; a love for Stravinsky, a distaste for Hector Villa Lobos and we both found Vaughan Williams boring. I say it’s the American in me.
My all time favorite quote by a musician is by Beethoven. ““What you are, you are by accident of birth; what I am, I am by myself. There are and will be a thousand princes; there is only one Beethoven.” This says it all I think. Greatness is earned not given.
My all time favorite quote is by Shakespeare, “be not afraid of greatness for some men are born great, some achieve greatness and some men have greatness thrust upon them”.
“If music be the food of love, play on.” Orsino, Act I Twelfth Night. Shakespeare.
wow, there sure are a lot of idiots here, musical quotes are taken from musicians, not rappers!
“I detest Salzburg and the archbishop, I shit on them both”
-Mozart-gives a good example of his vulgar side, it makes sense that he would say such a thing in his circumstances.
“When the angels play for God they play Bach: to each other, they play Mozart”
-Isaiah Berlin
I have a couple:
The composer and organist Max Reger, after reading a negative review of his music, wrote the reviewer a letter, saying, “I am currently sitting in the smallest room of my house, with your review before me. In a moment, it shall be behind me”.
And Stravinsky, on architecture: “Architecture is frozen music.”
Although not a musician, Mark Twain’s quote on Wagner:
“His music is not as bad as it sounds” — my apologies to Mr. Alberich
“When words fail, music speaks.”
lol
~Hans Christian Andersen
“Music is emotion, made into motion.”

This is SO Varese.
“HELLO…to ALL my haters”- Rocko (song Imma Do Me)

Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life.

“The Almighty God alone to glory, the neighbor alone himself to teach”.

“Not brook (Bach), but sea (Meer) should be his name”.

Sexual Orientation versus Age of Onset as Bases for Typologies (Subtypes) for Gender Identity Disorder in Adolescents and Adults
employ either sexual orientation or age of onset of GID-related symptoms as bases for categorization. This review compares
these two typological approaches, with the goal of determining which one should be employed for the diagnosis of GID in Adolescents
or Adults (or its successor diagnosis) in the forthcoming revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). Typologies based on sexual orientation and age of onset of GID-related symptoms are roughly comparable in ease and
reliability of subtype assignment. Typologies based on sexual orientation, however, employ subtypes that are less ambiguous
and better suited to objective confirmation and that offer more concise, comprehensive clinical description. Typologies based
on sexual orientation are also superior in their ability to predict treatment-related outcomes and comorbid psychopathology
and to facilitate research. Commonly expressed objections to typologies based on sexual orientation are unpersuasive when
examined closely. The DSM should continue to employ subtypes based on sexual orientation for the diagnosis of GID in Adolescents
or Adults or its successor diagnosis.

Originally this approach was referred to as comprehensive distancing.
