There isn’t a field per se that deals specifically with body language. Its more of a specialization that some people study independently. Many psychologists get some basic knowledge of body language, and chemical dependency people like myself get a little bit more training in this field.

You can however make this your specialization. By making this an area for research for a future thesis, you can carve out a future career in this area. For instance, I’m specializing in Behavioral Addictions (a field not previously given much focus).

    Yes there is!

This type of research falls into the broad term, “Behavioral Science.”

One of the most famous scientists in this field is Dr. Paul Ekman. He has been studying non verbal communication for over 40 years. His techniques regarding micro facial movements and other body language shown in deception have been used by police agencies and the FBI. He even developed a program called FACS people can use to learn and understand what certain facial movements may indicate.

There are loads of books and articles written by and about him and his research.

Fascinating stuff indeed! You can start learning more by visiting his website. Have fun! :-)
